A new Italian eatery has opened on High Street in Northcote, to the delight of Italophiles across Melbourne.
113eatery is serving up an authentic Italian food and coffee, a welcome addition to the High Street precinct. The menu is designed around one simple concept, “everyone should be able to eat sitting around the same table, vegans and coeliacs included”. Expect big and traditional flavours for their house-made gnocchi, pasta and wood fired pizza. A must try is the Deliziosa pizza (made from 72-hour rested dough, fior di latte, nduja, porcini, speck, truffle oil and pistachio), and of course the Cannoli Siciliani for dessert. All food is available vegan, gluten free as well as in their traditional formats.
For the breakfast offering, the team have partnered with illy Australia. The premium coffee company hails from Trieste in northeast Italy - where one of the 113 owners was born and raised. illy was recently awarded one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies, marking its ninth consecutive year to receive the honour, and the only Italian company to do so. This and the unique crafted taste of the coffee made it a natural alignment for the 113eatery team. Sustainability is a key ethos of the venue, utilising only recyclable or biodegradable packaging.
The venue will also host Australia’s first Universita del Caffe in collaboration with illy coffee. The Universita will serve as a coffee education and training facility for trade and customers across Victoria. The 60 square metre site will sit above the eatery, offering a range of sessions from barista training to classic illy coffee cocktails (tiramisu cocktail included) during the day. At night, the space will transform into a function room and Aperitivo space.
The team behind 113eatery are Melbourne hospitality heavyweights Lorenzo Tron, Roberto Davoli and Edoardo Nicita. The trio have already developed a cult following for their Pascoe Vale South pizzeria, Shop225, known its plant-based cheeses, sausages and “Nutella”.
